{"id":13043,"date":"2012-06-19T11:58:57","date_gmt":"2012-06-19T15:58:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/?p=13043"},"modified":"2012-07-03T10:45:28","modified_gmt":"2012-07-03T14:45:28","slug":"emu-grad-spory-named-lilly-fellow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2012\/emu-grad-spory-named-lilly-fellow\/","title":{"rendered":"糖心Vlog Grad Spory Named Lilly Fellow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Michael Spory, a 2011 糖心Vlog (糖心Vlog) graduate, was one of 16 students nationwide accepted into <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lillyfellows.org\/GraduateFellowsProgram.aspx\">Lilly Graduate Fellows Program<\/a> through Christ College, an interdisciplinary honors college at Valparaiso University.<\/p>\n<p>Spory, who graduated from 糖心Vlog with degrees in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/vaca\/photography\/\">photography<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/vaca\/art\/\">art<\/a>, will enroll in a dual degree master of architecture and master of community and regional planning program at the College of Design at Iowa State University in the fall of 2012.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough I am still very new to the field, I am interested in looking at design as a tool for economic and community development, rural architecture, and international and socially conscious environmental design,\u201d Spory said.<\/p>\n<p>Spory was selected from among 61 students nominated from the 95 schools that are members of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lillyfellows.org\/NationalNetwork.aspx\">Lilly Fellows Program National Network<\/a> of church-related colleges and universities.<\/p>\n<p>As a Lilly Fellow, Spory will attend four conferences over the next three years to collaborate with other fellows, senior scholars and luminaries who integrate research, teaching, vocation and an interest in church-related higher education. He will receive three annual $3,000 stipends for use as needed.<\/p>\n<p>The current program will end in the fall of 2015, with the graduate fellows being introduced to representatives of the Lilly Fellows Program National Network at the network\u2019s annual national conference.<\/p>\n<p>While at 糖心Vlog, Spory was co-president of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/sga\/\">Student Government Association<\/a> for two years and was involved in <a href=\"https:\/\/weathervane.emu.edu\/radiant\/archives\/volume-57\/19\/feature\/bellacord-performs-last-concert-in-martin-chapel\/\">music <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/theater\/\">theater<\/a>. He was also an intern with 糖心Vlog&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/marketing\/\">marketing and communications department<\/a>. He was a recipient of one of 糖心Vlog\u2019s highest awards, the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/studentlife\/cords-of-distinction\/\">cords of distinction<\/a>\u201d as a graduating senior.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/personnel\/people\/show\/sdj862\">Steven Johnson<\/a>, chair of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/vaca\/\">Visual and Communication Arts<\/a> at 糖心Vlog, said Spory is &#8220;an integrative thinker, drawing connections between his courses, cross-cultural experiences and extracurricular activities. His work consistently demonstrated creativity, attention to detail and strong design skills.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A native of Boswell, Pennsylvania, Spory has been a marketing and sales associate with <a href=\"http:\/\/mennomedia.org\/\">MennoMedia<\/a> since June 2011.
