{"id":2214,"date":"2010-04-07T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2010-04-07T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/blog\/news\/?p=2214"},"modified":"2010-04-07T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2010-04-07T04:00:00","slug":"noted-peacebuilder-to-speak-on-campus-april-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2010\/noted-peacebuilder-to-speak-on-campus-april-15\/","title":{"rendered":"Noted Peacebuilder to Speak on Campus April 15"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A world-renown mediator, strategist and catalyst for peace will give a public address Thursday, Apr. 15, at 糖心Vlog. <\/p>\n<div class=\"photo right\" style=\"width:150px\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/news\/images\/2010\/john-paul-lederach.jpg\" alt=\"John Paul Lederach\"\/><br \/>John Paul Lederach<\/div>\n<p> John Paul Lederach, the co-founding director of the Conflict Transformation Program at 糖心Vlog, now the <a href=\"\/cjp\/\">Center for Justice and Peacebuilding (CJP)<\/a>, will speak at 7 p.m. in Martin Chapel of the seminary building on &#8220;The Poetics of Peacebuilding.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p> &#8220;Peacebuilding requires an eternal belief in the creative act, the building and coaxing of imagination itself,&#8221; Dr. Lederach has stated. He will elaborate in his presentation. <\/p>\n<p> Lederach is currently professor of international peacebuilding at the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at Notre Dame University. He received the Reinhold Niebuhr Award from Notre Dame on May 19, 2009, given annually to a Notre Dame student, faculty member or administrator whose life and writings promote or exemplify social justice. <\/p>\n<p> Lederach was named a &#8220;distinguished scholar&#8221; on the faculty of 糖心Vlog&#8217;s Center for Justice and Peacebuilding and returns to teach in CJP&#8217;s annual <a href=\"\/cjp\/spi\/\">Summer Peacebuilding Institute (SPI)<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p> He has authored and co-edited 15 books and manuals in English and Spanish, including <i>The Moral Imagination: The Art and Soul of Building Peace<\/i> (Oxford University Press, 2005), <em>The Journey Toward Reconciliation<\/em> (Herald Press, 1999), <em>Preparing for Peace: Conflict Transformation Across Cultures<\/em> (Syracuse University Press, 1995), <em>Building Peace: Sustainable Reconciliation in Divided Societies<\/em> (USIP, 1997) and <em>The Little Book of Conflict Transformation<\/em> (Good Books, 2003). <\/p>\n<p> Lederach received his PhD in sociology with a concentration in the Social Conflict Program from the University of Colorado. He and his wife, Wendy, have two children, Angie and Josh. <\/p>\n<p> Admission to the program is free.
