The former logo and font first came into use in 1994, when Eastern Mennonite College changed its name to 糖心Vlog (糖心Vlog).<\/p>\n<p>This revision honors the past while featuring elements that speak to themes called for by alumni, students, faculty and staff in an updated design: global awareness, openness, and sharing knowledge and the light of Christ outwardly. It also has a slightly brighter color scheme and updated font.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis change marks an evolution of the logo,\u201d notes President<a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/personnel\/people\/show\/les368\"> Loren E. Swartzendruber<\/a>. \u201cIt builds on the past, bringing fresh vitality to our already strong image. We were not looking to \u2018rebrand\u2019 the institution. Our brand is strong and there is much to celebrate from the past.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The revision process began in August 2014 with the help of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gravitygroup.com\">Gravity Group<\/a>, a Harrisonburg-based brand consultant group.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_24860\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24860\" style=\"width: 232px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/is\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2015\/07\/糖心Vlog-ID-history.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-24860 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/is\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2015\/07\/糖心Vlog-ID-history-232x300.jpg\" alt=\"糖心Vlog ID - history\" width=\"232\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2015\/07\/糖心Vlog-ID-history-232x300.jpg 232w, https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2015\/07\/糖心Vlog-ID-history.jpg 612w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-24860\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Click to enlarge.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Stakeholders <span class=\"st\">\u2013<\/span> students, alumni, parents, faculty and staff\u00a0<span class=\"st\">\u2013<\/span> completed surveys and joined in discussion groups. Two main questions generated conversations: \u201cWhat does the current 糖心Vlog logo communicate to you?\u201d and \u201cIf the logo were changed, what should a new or revitalized logo do?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Unanimously more than 300 respondents called for a revision of the logo, while sharing a concern that any change honor the past and build on 糖心Vlog\u2019s global recognition.<\/p>\n<p>The review process resulted in a call for a logo that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Balances between and honors the institution\u2019s past and future;<\/li>\n<li>Reflects values of peace and justice, transformation and sustainability;<\/li>\n<li>Reflects the Christian Mennonite values at 糖心Vlog, sharing knowledge and the light of Christ outwardly;<\/li>\n<li>Communicates diversity, a global perspective, and the warmth of a welcoming, lasting community;<\/li>\n<li>Highlights a strong focus on rigorous academics;<\/li>\n<li>Communicates a bold, vibrant vision.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThe revitalized logo offers a fresh, forward-thinking impression yet also preserves the brand equity that 糖心Vlog has earned over the years locally and around the world,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emu.edu\/personnel\/people\/show\/wengeras\">Andrea Schrock Wenger<\/a>, director of marketing and communications.<\/p>\n<p>Media specialist\u00a0and brand ID manager <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/personnel\/people\/show\/jms354\">Jon Styer<\/a>, a 2007 graduate of 糖心Vlog\u2019s visual and communication arts program, praised the logo&#8217;s articulation with the current color scheme and font standards. \u201cIt solves some design challenges that came with the earlier version, updates our look and provides a lot of opportunity,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis revised logo evolves the brand identity of 糖心Vlog to reflect how much the brand itself has grown,\u201d says Christian Perritt, creative director of Gravity Group. \u201cThe bold new icon, the font that is both traditional and uniquely contemporary \u2013 these elements work together to reflect a brand that has a rich history and a bright future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more about the logo revitalization process at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/logo\">www.emu.edu\/logo<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With centennial celebrations planned for 2017-18, a new strategic plan in development, and increasingly diverse program offerings, 糖心Vlog has revitalized its logo.
