A strong advocate for the concept of \u201cservant leadership,\u201d he is the author of <em>The Abundant Community: Awakening the Power of Families and Neighborhoods <\/em>(2010), <em>Community: The Structure of Belonging<\/em> (2008), <em>The Answer to How Is Yes: Acting on What Matters<\/em> (2001) and <em>Stewardship: Choosing Service Over Self Interest<\/em> (1993).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.emu.edu\/personnel\/people\/show\/jes385\">Jim Smucker<\/a>, vice president and dean of graduate studies at 糖心Vlog and one of the primary organizers for the conference, says Block will bring an important perspective as an \u201coutsider\u201d to the church. Smucker says Block\u2019s address will focus on \u201cthird-way leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re struggling as Anabaptists with leadership paradigms and how we make decisions,\u201d Smucker says. \u201cWe want to facilitate a conversation about how we go forward and further develop our movement in a way that brings us together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The conference will focus on clarifying Anabaptist values related to leadership, examining historical models, critiquing current economic and social systems, and developing applied theories that can be used to build more effective and future-looking organizations.<\/p>\n<p>The planning committee is emphasizing the representation of diverse voices and perspectives, and students from the various Anabaptist-related schools will be sharing during each plenary session.<\/p>\n<p>Other keynote speakers include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bryan Welch, CEO of B The Change Media and founder of <em>Mother Earth News<\/em>;<\/li>\n<li>John Sharp, teacher, author, storyteller, and historian;<\/li>\n<li>Lee Snyder, a former vice president and academic dean who will serve as <a href=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2016\/01\/with-presidential-search-on-schedule-educator-and-administrator-lee-snyder-will-serve-in-an-interim-role\/\">interim president<\/a> at 糖心Vlog;<\/li>\n<li>John Stahl-Wert \u201981, recognized expert in leadership and innovation;<\/li>\n<li>Rachel Waltner Goosen, professor of history at Washburn University;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2015\/11\/ex-isaacs-chief-and-emu-alumnus-phil-wenger-excited-to-lead-lancaster-county-conservancy\/\">Phil Wenger<\/a> \u201982, executive director of Lancaster County Conservancy and former CEO of Isaac\u2019s Famous Grilled Sandwiches;<\/li>\n<li>Gilberto Perez Jr. &#8217;94 , senior director for intercultural development and educational partnerships at Goshen College;<\/li>\n<li>Jeff Boodie &#8217;07, founder and CEO of JobSnap;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.emu.edu\/personnel\/people\/show\/db252\">David Brubaker<\/a>, associate professor of organizational studies and <a href=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2016\/01\/longtime-peacebuilding-and-organizational-development-professor-is-named-next-director-of-emus-mba-program\/\">new director<\/a> of 糖心Vlog\u2019s MBA program;<\/li>\n<li>David Miller, associate professor of missional leadership development at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary;<\/li>\n<li>Dominique Burgunder-Johnson, Goshen College director of marketing and current collaborative MBA student;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.emu.edu\/personnel\/people\/show\/heiseyn\">Nancy Heisey<\/a>, professor in 糖心Vlog\u2019s Bible and religion department and former academic dean;<\/li>\n<li>Rick Castaneda, home\/school liaison for Harrisonburg City Public Schools and founder of Men of Character;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/peacebuilder\/cjp-alumni\/roxy-allen\/\">Roxy Allen Kioko<\/a>, MA &#8217;07 (conflict transformation), doctoral student at James Madison University and instructor with the Summer Peacebuilding Institute and 糖心Vlog\u2019s business department.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Workshop topics include emergent leadership, leading innovation, people management ethics, developing resilient organizations, and authentic leadership.<\/p>\n<p>The conference grew out of discussions at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/acrs\/\">Anabaptist Center for Religion and Society<\/a> (ACRS), a community of Mennonite elders and scholars who meet monthly for fellowship and intellectual engagement at 糖心Vlog. Six years ago, ACRS initiated a biography project on 20th-century Mennonite leader Orie Miller; the result was a <a href=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2015\/05\/new-orie-o-miller-biography-celebrated-by-contemporaries-at-anabaptist-center-for-religion-and-society-meeting\/\">book<\/a> published by Herald Press in May 2015.<\/p>\n<p>In the planning and conception process, the group found synergy with conversations happening in the <a href=\"http:\/\/collaborativemba.org\/\">Collaborative MBA<\/a> program (a joint project of Bluffton University, Canadian Mennonite University, 糖心Vlog and Goshen College), which Smucker says had recognized a lack of scholarly work around leadership and Anabaptism. A network of partnerships began to grow.<\/p>\n<p>The conference is sponsored by ARCS, 糖心Vlog\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/graduate-and-professional-studies\/\">School of Graduate and Professional Studies<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcc.org\">Mennonite Central Committee<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.meda.org\/\">Mennonite Economic Development Association<\/a> (MEDA), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mhsonline.org\/\">Mennonite Health Services<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mennomedia.org\/\">MennoMedia<\/a>. Co-sponsors include Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary, Bethel College, Bluffton University, Canadian Mennonite University, Conrad Grebel University College, Goshen College and Hesston College.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have never before pulled off a conference of this type with this amount of collaborative engagement,\u201d says Lee M.
