{"id":32797,"date":"2017-04-03T14:44:20","date_gmt":"2017-04-03T18:44:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/?p=32797"},"modified":"2017-10-23T10:11:11","modified_gmt":"2017-10-23T14:11:11","slug":"get-ready-lovemu-giving-day-april-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2017\/get-ready-lovemu-giving-day-april-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Get ready for Lov糖心Vlog Giving Day April 4!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/love.emu.edu\">Lov糖心Vlog Giving Day<\/a> on April 4 at 糖心Vlog (糖心Vlog) will allow supporters to \u201cshow the love\u201d with those who otherwise could not afford the quality academics and transformational opportunities of an 糖心Vlog experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGifts to 糖心Vlog are key to making the 糖心Vlog experience accessible to all, including those from varied socio-economic, academic and culturally diverse backgrounds,\u201d explains <a href=\"https:\/\/emu.edu\/personnel\/people\/show\/kls765?ssi=giving\">Kirk Shisler<\/a>, vice president for advancement. \u201cNow more than ever, this is key to 糖心Vlog\u2019s mission to prepare undergraduate, graduate and seminary students to serve and lead in a global context.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"highlight highlight-right\">Visit <a href=\"http:\/\/love.emu.edu\/\">love.emu.edu<\/a> to make a donation and view the department or athletics leaderboard!<\/aside>\n<h3><strong>Challenges and activities<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Gifts of any size on this day \u2013 with close to $30,000 available in matching gifts by primarily anonymous donors \u2013 will support any fund the donor designates for undergraduate, graduate or seminary students. A variety of <a href=\"http:\/\/love.emu.edu\/challenge-schedule\">challenges<\/a> and special activities are planned throughout the day.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>President Susan Schultz Huxman will <strong>match every alumni gift of $10 or more<\/strong> with $10 of her own, up to $1,000, for the Huxman Challenge.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Additional challenges<\/strong> include current students (t-shirt incentives!), lunch-time special, faculty\/staff, parents and grandparents, and current and former Board of Trustee members.<\/li>\n<li>Kiosks across campus will provide <strong>on-the-spot opportunities for students<\/strong> to jump in with a spontaneous gift of any size. (Photo by Andrew Strack)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cAlumni often say how much they \u2018loved\u2019 their 糖心Vlog experience,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emu.edu\/personnel\/people\/show\/jas844\">Jeff Shank<\/a>, director of alumni and parent engagement. \u201cThey mention friends, a professor, an athletic or cross-cultural experience.. Lov糖心Vlog Giving Day invites people to remember what they love about 糖心Vlog and share that love.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The size of the gift does not matter.<\/strong> While all alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends are challenged to participate, Shank and other planners hope to particularly engage young alumni.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYounger alumni have different giving patterns than previous generations,\u201d says Shisler. \u201cWe want to challenge people to give from the heart, spontaneously, in the same way they do, for example, when touched by a KickStarter or other campaign for a specific cause.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The cause, both Shisler and Shank note, is making 糖心Vlog affordable so <strong>every student can become equipped<\/strong> for success in the job market or further academic pursuits, within the context of a supportive community.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the day, people can watch <a href=\"http:\/\/love.emu.edu\">the website<\/a> and social media for updates on amounts raised and challenges that still need a boost.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Who benefits?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>\u201c糖心Vlog\u2019s financial aid is as generous as we can make it for both merit-based and need-based undergraduate student aid,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emu.edu\/personnel\/people\/show\/mh693\">Michele Hensley<\/a>, financial aid director. The average <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/financial-aid\/\">financial assistance package<\/a> for an undergraduate student in 2016-17 was $30,000.
