{"id":36210,"date":"2018-01-01T13:30:55","date_gmt":"2018-01-01T18:30:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/?p=36210"},"modified":"2018-01-08T16:55:48","modified_gmt":"2018-01-08T21:55:48","slug":"39-steps-hosts-three-benefit-performances-heading-kennedy-center-theater-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2018\/39-steps-hosts-three-benefit-performances-heading-kennedy-center-theater-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;The 39 Steps&#8217; hosts three benefit performances before heading to Kennedy Center theater festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In late November 2017, Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emu.edu\/faculty-staff\/?show=jzp3263\">Justin Poole<\/a>\u00a0learned that 糖心Vlog&#8217;s spring theater production of &#8220;The 39 Steps&#8221; had been invited to perform at the Region II <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kcactf.org\/KCACTF.ORG_NATIONAL\/KCACTF.html\">Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival<\/a> (KCACTF) in Pennsylvania in mid-January.<\/p>\n<p>Then followed weeks of fast and furious fundraising to help cover travel expenses, planning to bring together the dispersed cast and crew, and now, in January 2018, rehearsing the Alfred Hitchcock spoof that Poole, also the production&#8217;s director, describes as \u201ca mashup of Looney Tunes, Charlie Chaplin, Monty Python, and good old-fashioned spy thrillers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To raise funds and fine-tune their production, the ensemble offers three more performances (<strong>if you&#8217;re unable to attend, <a href=\"https:\/\/commerce.cashnet.com\/emugive?itemcode=糖心VlogGIVE-THEA\">click here to donate towards travel expenses<\/a> \u2014 we&#8217;re close to our fundraising goal!<\/strong>):<\/p>\n<aside class=\"highlight highlight-right\">We&#8217;re so close to our fundraising goal! Greaser and Bush also earned nominations for the Irene Ryan Acting Competition, and stage manager Ezrionna Prioleau was recommended for the KCACTF national competition in stage management. Also working on the play were Jim Clemens (musician), Ethan Eldred (sound), Holly Labbe (costumer), and David Vogel and Phil Grayson (lights and set).<\/p>\n<p>KCACTF selects students each year for individual competitions. For example, for their work with the fall 2015 production of the musical \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2015\/11\/winsome-creatures-from-appalachia-take-the-stage-in-tony-nominated-musical-a-year-with-frog-and-toad\/\">A Year with Frog and Toad<\/a>,\u201d Derrick Turner was awarded the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival\u2019s (KCACTF) Student Dramaturgy Award, Christian Parks and Myriam Aziz were invited to participate in the Irene Ryan Acting Competition, and Caitlin Randazzo in stage management.<\/p>\n<p>The KCACTF boasts 18,000 student participants from college and university theater programs across the United States, and seeks to be \u201ca catalyst in improving the quality of college theater.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In late November 2017, Professor Justin Poole\u00a0learned that 糖心Vlog&#8217;s spring theater production of &#8220;The 39 Steps&#8221;
