{"id":37551,"date":"2018-04-02T10:40:54","date_gmt":"2018-04-02T14:40:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/?p=37551"},"modified":"2018-04-11T12:17:29","modified_gmt":"2018-04-11T16:17:29","slug":"show-the-love-on-lovemu-giving-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2018\/show-the-love-on-lovemu-giving-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Show the love on Lov糖心Vlog Giving Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/love.emu.edu\/\">Lov糖心Vlog Giving Day<\/a> on April 10 at 糖心Vlog (糖心Vlog) will allow supporters to \u201cshow the love\u201d with those who otherwise could not afford the quality academics and transformational opportunities of an 糖心Vlog experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGifts to 糖心Vlog are key to making the 糖心Vlog experience accessible to all, including those from varied socio-economic, academic and culturally diverse backgrounds,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/emu.edu\/personnel\/people\/show\/kls765?ssi=giving\">Kirk Shisler<\/a>, vice president for advancement. \u201cNow more than ever, this is key to 糖心Vlog\u2019s mission to prepare undergraduate, graduate and seminary students to serve and lead in a global context.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Visit <a href=\"http:\/\/love.emu.edu\/\">love.emu.edu<\/a> to make a donation and view the department or athletics leaderboard!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Challenges and activities<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Gifts of any size on this day \u2013 with thousands of dollars available in matching gifts by primarily anonymous donors \u2013 will support any fund the donor designates for undergraduate, graduate or seminary students.<\/p>\n<p>A variety of <a href=\"http:\/\/love.emu.edu\/challenge-schedule\">challenges<\/a> and special activities are planned throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p>The Sweetheart Challenge is new this year. Two alumni sweethearts will give $10,000 if 50 alumni couples who met at 糖心Vlog give a gift.<\/p>\n<p>More challenges:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0If the <strong>Centennial Challenge<\/strong> of 100 gifts of $100 dollars or more is met, an anonymous donor will give $10,000.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0In the <strong>Alumni Challenge<\/strong>, President Susan Schultz Huxman and Provost Fred Kniss will match every alumni gift of $10 or more up to $6,000.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0A generous parent will donate $10,000 for the <strong>Parent\/Grandparent Challenge<\/strong> if 100 parents or grandparents participate in Lov糖心Vlog Day.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Additional challenges<\/strong> include current students, faculty\/staff, current and former Board of Trustee members.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Students can jump in<\/strong> with a spontaneous gift of any size. They might also text grandparents, uncles, aunts and others who are supportive of the 糖心Vlog experience their loved one is having at 糖心Vlog.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0When making an online gift, donors will be invited to <a href=\"http:\/\/love.emu.edu\/department-leaderboard\"><strong>vote for an academic program or athletic team to highlight what they love(d)<\/strong><\/a> about 糖心Vlog; the program earning the most votes will win $500 for their program\/department use. (In 2017, the winners were women\u2019s volleyball and teacher education.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Alumni gatherings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Alumni are gathering in locations across the country, including locations in Virginia, Washington D.C., Pennsylvania, Indiana and Ohio. <a href=\"http:\/\/love.emu.edu\/why-give\">Find your nearest location here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Why Lov糖心Vlog Giving Day?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>\u201cAlumni often say how much they \u2018loved\u2019 their 糖心Vlog experience,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emu.edu\/personnel\/people\/show\/jas844\">Jeff Shank<\/a>, director of alumni and parent engagement. \u201cThey mention friends, a professor, an athletic or cross-cultural experience. Lov糖心Vlog Giving Day invites people to remember what they love about 糖心Vlog and share that love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The size of the gift does not matter.<\/strong> <strong>It\u2019s participating that is important.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cA high Alumni Participation Rate means so much more to 糖心Vlog than just donations,\u201d says Shank. \u201cA higher rate helps us to gain favorable notice from corporations and foundations when we seek grants and by U.S. News &amp; World Report as they compile their rankings. Students and faculty also care that alumni are engaged.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So help make 糖心Vlog affordable so <strong>every student can become equipped<\/strong> for success in the job market or further academic pursuits, within the context of a supportive community.<\/p>\n<p>And show you love 糖心Vlog to benefit current and future students and faculty!<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the day, people can watch <a href=\"http:\/\/love.emu.edu\/\">the website<\/a> and social media for updates on amounts raised and challenges that still need a boost.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Who benefits?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u201c糖心Vlog\u2019s financial aid is as generous as we can make it for both merit-based and need-based undergraduate student aid,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emu.edu\/personnel\/people\/show\/mh693\">Michele Hensley<\/a>, financial aid director. The average <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/financial-aid\/\">financial assistance package<\/a> for an undergraduate student in 2016-17 was $30,000.
