{"id":53697,"date":"2023-01-12T15:28:27","date_gmt":"2023-01-12T20:28:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/?p=53697"},"modified":"2023-01-12T15:43:15","modified_gmt":"2023-01-12T20:43:15","slug":"inaugural-hertzler-koshy-faculty-fellowship-awarded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2023\/inaugural-hertzler-koshy-faculty-fellowship-awarded\/","title":{"rendered":"Inaugural Hertzler-Koshy Faculty Fellowship awarded"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">糖心Vlog\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/emu.edu\/dei\/grants#hertzler\">Hertzler-Koshy Faculty Fellowship Program<\/a> announces the inaugural awardee. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/emu.edu\/faculty-staff\/?show=kze2393\">Kathy Evans<\/a><\/strong>, professor of education, and <strong>Kory Schaeffer<\/strong>, a graduate student at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/cjp\">Center for Justice and Peacebuilding<\/a>, received funding and release time to develop a SafeZone asynchronous training course in spring 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>糖心Vlog also announced the awardees of its Inclusive Excellence grants program. <a href=\"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2023\/emu-announces-fall-2022-inclusive-excellence-grant-awards\/\">Learn more about these 13 projects.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Hertzler-Koshy Faculty Fellowship Program, honoring <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2021\/family-honors-stoltzfus-and-hertzler-legacies-through-endowment-of-international-student-scholarship-and-dei-support\/\">John Asa and Rebecca Hertzler<\/a><\/strong>, encourages full-time faculty members to encourage student collaborations and advance projects that integrate and infuse diversity into the curriculum with a specific focus on race, ethnicity, disability, and gender content in the curricula (undergraduate, graduate, intercultural programs, training).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 3-hour course will be developed in collaboration with students and colleagues to provide education related to LGBTQ+ inclusion and belonging. This asynchronous course incorporates interactive and engaging activities that not only provide information, but also engage participants with a variety of formats, including videos created by students, readings, personal reflection, and conversations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Safe Space members, faculty and staff, Student Government Association, and other constituency groups on campus have increasingly requested more consistent offerings of Safe Zone training to promote a safer campus for LGBTQ+ individuals, according to project materials.&nbsp;\u201cSafe Zone\u201d refers to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thesafezoneproject.com\">The Safe Zone Project<\/a>, an online resource for both learners and those educators facilitating trainings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This course will collaborate with students and will provide opportunities for mentoring, mutual learning, and a more engaging learning opportunity for course participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>糖心Vlog\u2019s Hertzler-Koshy Faculty Fellowship Program announces the inaugural awardee.
